building a trigger to change parent table

P: n/a
Hello,

I'm having a Parent-Child relationship.

tblParent:
parentId autonum
parentName text
parentFamilyChange date

tblChild:
childName text
childParentId numeric
childHobbies text
childChange date

Whenever a child is changed (Name or hobbies) I want the childChange
date to be changed automatically to systemdate AND I want to change
the parentFamilyChange date to the same date.

The problem is (?) that I don't work with MS Access forms, but with a
html interface. You cannot put events on MS Access forms. So how
should I deal with this??

Thx for any help.

A form does have it's own events. Could you not use the On Dirty event
of the form?

Paul,
Evens are part of the Access forms object model. But since you are working
through HTML, I'd script it as part of the site. I suck at scripted html so
fortive me if I suggest something lame. Anyway, if there is a way to detect
that the user changed a value in the form field for name or hobbies then you
could have your script fire off a script/stored procedure to update the
childChange date column. I realize I am mostly echoing your message. My
key point is that I'd not bother with Access forms if you already have a web
site together that is serving the data.

Thanks for your suggestions. I was looking for a trigger just like
Oracle has (it can trigger on create/insert/update/delete of a
tablerow).

I'll try it on the interface site with javascript.

Thanks,
Paul
