Opening Access 2002 also Opens a New Explorer Window

When I have Windows Explorer open and then launch an Access
application, another Windows Explorer window opens that is titled MS
Access. This causes poor performance by Access.
I can work around this by closing Windows Explorer prior to launching
Access.

Operating System is Windows XP. Computer is an IBM Thinkpad.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks,
Oscar

Um, to be clear - when you "have Windows Explorer open and then launch an
Access application", how are you launching the Access application? Are you
clicking on Start -> Programs -> Microsoft Access and then opening the
database, or are you clicking on the .mdb file from Windows Explorer, or
are you clicking on a shortcut that has been created for your application?

When you say "closing Windows Explorer prior to launching Access", does
that mean you launch the Access application in the same way as before,
except you don't have Windows Explorer open?
