WindowsXP and Access97

Ton
I hope someone can help.

A few years ago I built an access97 database and program. It ran fine in a
setup with 4 users.

Earlier this week they upgraded everything to WindowsXP. The access
application and database now only work in single user mode. The program
starts ok and the menu is shown etc. But updating a record isn't possible
they get an error like ".../.../xxx.mdb is invalid"

I think it has to be something with permissions on the files. How do I
explain to them what to do now?

At home I don't have this kind of setup furthermore they live to far away to
investigate my self. How do I point them in the right direction to solve
the problem?

Thanks for any help.

What OS where they using before? Did they upgrade to XP Home or XP Pro? Did
they upgrade their old OS or did they do a clean install and/or new
computers?

Right off-hand, it sounds as if it is network or NTFS permissions related.
Have they tried sharing other files? If they can access these other files,
can the make changes to them or are they read only? Does the share where the
common database file(s) is located have read, write, create, and delete
permissions for the users? This will need to be in both the share
permissions and the NTFS permissions.
