How many fields can I have in a query?

How many fields can I have in a query?
I am working on a query and it just quit adding new field columns.
Is there a limit?
Maybe I need to split it up into individual queries.

255. By default the design grid will display a much smaller number than this,
but you can go to the main menu and use Insert - Rows to add more.
