subreport wont even display?

This seems like a very silly simple question and I am sure I am doing
something very easy wrong.....but.....I cant get my subreport to
display on my main report! I have tried everything I can think of. The
subreport opens fine by itself either in its entirity or when I filter
it using client ID. But I cant even get it to display (with or without
filtering) on the report. I have tried other reports and none of them
display either. And I tried putting on a subform. That worked. So why
wont a subreport. I have followed both methods of dragging it onto the
report from the database window and also using the subreport wizard. I
am using access 97 if that makes a difference. Please help?
