Update table from a report

Hello Everyone,

Someone asked me today if it was possible to update data in a table via
a report. I saw one thread where someone indicated the solutions.mdb
had a report that did it but I didn't see it.

Does anyone have experience doing this?

Any information is appreciated.

TIA,

John

Depends, I guess, on what it is you wish to do.
You can run an Update or an Append query from a report event, but you
haven't given enough info on what you want to do.

And, you can use DAO or ADO code in the Report's events to update, append,
or delete records in a Table. I recall doing something similar in Report
events -- as I recall, it was creating specific HTML (as opposed to
publishing the Report to HTML)rather than updating Records.

The user wants the ability to update fields from a report. If the
original form has a dropdown box to update the record, he wants the
same dropdown box in the report to do the same. If there is a text
field in the original form, he wants a text field in the report where
he makes changes within the report and the data in the table is
modified.

He wants a report to do the same as a form.

Thanks.

Make a form that looks like a report (white background, black text) and
tell the user it's not a form, it's a special kind of report. (If
needed, make a dummy report, and have its On_Open event open the form
instead.)

There's really nothing else you can do about requests like this - it's
like going to the grocery store to buy a couch. You might be able to
find a few things to serve the purpose of a couch - a few milk crates
and some towels, perhaps - but it's gonna be a rather sorry substitute.

Forget about it.
A Report is a passive display of data. While you can do a little data
manipulation with the data displayed in the report, you would want to
use a Form for what, it appears, your 'user' wants to do.
