Importing to Access 97

Hard to believe but it seems no one else has this problem ... or it is
too simple!

I installed Office 97 on my new Dell with Windows XP SP2. Everything
works as it should EXCEPT ...

When attempting to import data ("Get External Data") into an existing
Access database, there is an error message that I do not have
permission. It matters not where the source file is. Nor does it
matter what the file type. I am the only user and, by default, should
have access to all files.

A possible clue is that the drop down list in the "Get External Data"
selection box does not have all of the usual data types. However, the
setup program shows that they are installed.

Ironically, an HP machine with Win XP SP2 also has Access 97 and there
is no problem.

Thanks in advance
Jack

Sorry I was in a bad mood.
I see it is being discussed in the other group you posted it to.
