I work with a social agency that provides information from a database.
I'm a tech guy, but not an SQL or DB guy, so this is probably a easy
question for the MS-Access people out there.
We have a database that is our bread-and-butter. Our people manage it
with MS Access, and then an interface is provided to users (ie telphone
operators and some internet users) to do queries for specific responses.
Is there a means to embed security into this database, such that the query
tools can still access it, and users can make good use of it, yet someone
who has a copy of the 50MB database, AND has their own copy of MS-Access
cannot open the database, alter the contents, and basically steal the data
for themselves.
Our agencies value is offering updates of the content as the community changes.
Some clarification on this would be very helpful. It might even be nice
to give some users the whole database for their laptops so they can run
queries on the road, but not comprimise the ownership of the DB.
Thanks in Advance
George.
