Excel automation, probably.
create a function that you pass a filename into and maybe a row and
column
Make the return type a variant, so you can retrieve anything you want.

create an Excel object, and add/open a worksheet to it. Go to the
R(x)C(y) cell, copy the contents to a variable and assign that back to
the function's name. Then close everything, destroy all refs, and away
you go.

But isn't there an easier way? well, not really, because Access tables
are NOT ordered. (database theory 101). so location in an unordered
set is meaningless, so querying won't really work.
