VS doesn't work w/ Access, but it can access the JET db engine that
Access uses (see ADO.NET books on how to do that).

The most recent version of VS is _Visual Studio .NET 2005_.

What are you trying to do? Is your objective to create an Access runtime? If so you
want the Visual Studio Tools for Office. IIRC.

And, as of this date, there is only one version: Visual Studio Tools for
Office 2003 System.

If you simply want to develop applications with the separate Visual Studio
product which use an Access (Jet database engine) database, I recommend you
get the latest version of Visual Studio, but you need to ask in a Visual
Studio, or VB.NET, or C# newsgroup which edition of VS you need -- and that
will depend on what you want to develop.
