Report Total Line: Summing just two rows?

I have a subreport that will never have more than 2 rows.

It might have one and it might have none, but it will never have more
than two.

For the total line, however, I need something the client calls
"Residual". It's not just the diff between first/second rows. If the
first row is -7 and the second row is +8, the residual is -15.
OTOH, if the first row is -8 and the second row is +7, the residual is
-15.

VIZ:

FirstValue -7
SecondValue +8
--------------
Residual -15
FirstValue +7
SecondValue -8
--------------
Residual +15
I'm tempted to set up a report that's not even based on a recordset and
just plug in the values one-by-one.....but maybe there's a better way.
Anybody been here?
