How to copy groups and users from old secury file .mdw into a new one?

P: n/a
Hello
I recently updated my database applications from MS Access 97 to
Access 2000. I somehow missed that the security file also should have
been updated. All went fine and smooth. The applications have been
working for a couple of month now and they still work, but a size of
the security file is more then 270 Mb now!
There are several applications all secured by the same file.
Applications are used by about 1000 users of different security
groups.
I have name, organisation and workgroup ID of the security file, how
it was created. I know how to re-create security file, but:
how do I stick all this groups and users into the new file so that
applications will use it? And I don't have security IDs for users.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

The MDW is just another MDB. You can upgrade it and compact it at any

270 MB, that must be some kind of record.

Thank you for your answer. Sorry, I didn't mentioned that I actually
tried. The file, although functioning still, didn't want to be
converted, repaired or compacted. But after reading your message, I
decided to try again. The file refused to get converted for a couple
of times, but - surprise, surprise - get compacted in process. On the
third time the file got converted and now is healthy 400Kb.
