Last Record

I have 2 tables with TypeID in both tables with a one-to-many
relationship between the 2 tables. On the many side, each record has a
date/time field. In a select query, how can I find the record for each
TypeID with the latest date?

Select table1.typeid, Max(table2.datefield)
from table1 inner join table2 on
table1.typeid = table2.typeid
group by table1.typeid
