Using Mag stripe reader to access records

I'm trying to access my database of records via a mag stripe reader.
I've created a querry that prompts me to enter a number. I thought that
I might just swipe the mag stripe and the appropriate record would come
up.
No luck. Do I need to purchase software to do this?

The function has to be built into your database. If you are using Access,
you can have the s/w written for this. I have a friend in this business,
Steve, http://securetech-corp.com , who can steer you in the right
direction. Please tell him I sent you. -- Mike

If you look around, you should be able to find a card reader that plugs
into your keyboard port. I know you can get a keyboard "wedge" barcode
reader and they should make them for magnetic stripes as well.

I just found this one on ebay for only $.99 !!!! better hurry up and
get it.... This is just an example, I don't know this guy.

Once you hook it up, it will be just like you typed it in on your
keyboard. You may need to filter it a little to get some special
stop-characters out of what you read, but you can usually setup the
device to tell it what to include or not include (like a carriage
return after a good read.)

Good Luck!

I have the wedge mag stripe reader.
How do I filter the unwanted characters.
Apparently there are two mag stripes that are read every time I swipe
the card.
The first line has the name information and the second line has the
number that I want to use.
This number looks like this when I swipe a card.
%00123478?
I nee to filter out the % and the ?
I guess I will also have to filter out the first line of the mag
stripe.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
