Problem with reports--ANY/ALL reports!

Ron
Hi everyone.

Windows XP Pro/Access2000/2.4gig chip/512meg RAM/200GigDrive.

I'm stumped. I've been involved in other things lately, but came back to
the program I'm preparing and zipped into a report and it took FOREVER to
load and run (well, about 12 seconds, which SEEMED like "forever"). I'm
almost sure it didn't do this before I took my break--can reports get upset
at you if you leave them alone?

All forms/queries/tables load almost instantaneously. I can go into a form
that runs off a query that involves about 7 different tables and it's
slapped onto the screen almost without pause. Yet, I ask for a transaction
listing (in the report area) and it takes anywhere from 7-12 seconds to show
on the screen. If I go into the design of any of my reports, it takes about
7-12 seconds to show the design on the screen, showing me the time-clock for
"busy" the whole time. Just sits there doing what looks to me like nothing.
Then, finally shows the design of the report. I can go into any other
design though (as long as it's not a report) and again, it's almost
instantaneously on the screen.

Just for drill, I made a new report with the design wizard and it's also
really slow--it takes around 6-8 seconds to show a listing off of one file
using a straight query of that file. And the same 6-8 seconds to enter
design view of that new report.

Anyone know what I could have done to my reports section to screw all of
them up? It's not just one report that is like quicksand, but ANY report.
And only reports.

Anyone know how I can fix this?

TIA

Update.

I've gotten so frustrated, looking back on everything, etc that I figured
I'd try a totally new database. Invented a new one with 1 form, 1 qry, 1
table (with 1 record in it with only 1 field filled in). And 1 report. As
soon as I try to access that one report, it takes 7-8 seconds to access
it--load it under design view or preview. Everything else works as normal,
popping up on screen with vigor.

I thought maybe it was the split BE/FE, but that isn't the case with this
new one I just tried.

What gives? Anyone have an idea? Help!

TIA
ron

Further update:

Okay, gang. Since nobody got back to me immediately (::grin::) I continued
to play. Seems my problem has something to do with the security settings.

When I started this database, the only user on this Windows XP Pro system
was "Admin". A few days ago, I wanted to play around with accessibility so
I added another user named "Two" and gave that user limited access to the
computer. I also thought it'd be cool if I changed the name of the primary
account name to "Ron" instead of "Admin". I just noticed on the
Tools/Security tab for Access that all the "owner"'s of everything is
"Admin". I changed the primary user's name back to "Admin" and viola!
Reports are running fine again. So's everything else, but the other stuff
was always working as you can see from my previous postings.

So, now my question is... How do I set the security setting to not pay any
attention to the user who's logged in. When I roll this program out to the
4 users on the system, they'll be using their user name of course...not
"Admin".

Is this the appropriate NG for Security issues to be discussed when
involving Access2000? If not, direct me? If yes, then again... what's up?
How do I set this database up so the users name doesn't make something run
like it's running inside a vat of molasses?

Thanks
ron
P.S. Okay, someone can respond now, or I'll begin to think I'm the only
human out here...
