A2K: unbound combo in bound form allows no selection

Hello all,

I am converting an Axs 2.0 application to a2k (I know A2K is not the
most current version but Axs 2.0 support ended and A2K is supported in
our company amd on every PC).
The form is part of an access projcet (ADP) and runs against SQL
Server 2000.

I have an bound form in endless view which contains a header with a
combobox. This combobox is bound to an access query and shall allow to
select filter criteria. The AfterUpdate-proc sets the ServerFilter
property of the form and performs a requery.

Everything works fine till a criteria is selected which results in no
data rows, i.e. detail section is empty.
After that two funny effects occure:
a) the selected criteria is not shown in the combo box
b) no other criteria can be selected

Work-around for a) is to click into the combo box or perform a
GotoControl which makes the content visible - for whatever reason.

Whats worse is - I was not able to find a reason / solution or at
least a work-around for b).

Any ideas?

There is definitely a problem win Access 2K and above with unbound controls on
a bound form when there is no current record (not a problem on forms that
allow adding records, by the way). Even if you can manage to edit the
control, you often can't read its value from code.

I have worked around this by using an unbound master form and a bound subform.
Any control that needs to be functional regardless of whether there is a
current record in the bound form resides on the master form. I find this
usually makes sense visually as well.

Hi Steve,

thanks for your reply - was a big help and good for my ruffeld ego ;-)

I found a work-around using stored procedures for combo boxes (Filters)
and list boxes (output of information) so the form is unbound. Negative
side effect - the size of the list boxes for output do not resize when
size of form changes (automatically). Will implement an auto-resizer
(when I feel like).
