game disrupting access

Hi

I have a problem with a program called BFVCC Server Manager (for the
Battlefield Vietnam game).

I installed it on my second hard drive (F:) and for some reason it installed
DAO 3.6, VBA and a lot of OCX's onto the F: drive and must have registered
them because (unknown to me at the time) Access 2003 started to use the
reference to DAO 3.6 on the F: drive.

My F: drive died and since then I have been having a lot of problems with
Access. At first I got a message at Access startup saying "Can not load DLL"
which I traced back to the reference to DAO on the now nonexistent F: drive.

I uninstalled Office 2003, ran a registry cleaner and then reinstalled
Office 2003. Now when I open an existing database and look at a code module,
after about 10 seconds, Access crashes. The same thing happens if I create a
new database. (The DAO reference is now pointing to DAO on the C: drive).

I tried installing Office 2000 but the same thing happens with Access 2000.

Can anyone suggest anything apart from reinstalling Windows XP?

Thanks - Joe

Joe,

Games have are reputation for being very invasive and disruptive.
Backup, reformat and reinstall.

If you can, get a second, dedicated game machine. If you can't do that,
consider a virtual OS manager, like VMware, to manage two installations
of Windows XP on one machine. One would be for games, the other for
development. That way, your games can't stomp your development efforts.

Hi Ken

You are correct in what you say, and I have learnt my lesson re games on my
development PC, however the question I asked was "Can anyone suggest

Recenty we had a pc come up with all sorts of weird Access errors. Some
files would not copy over the network. Some Access projects were
connected to an SQL server but still showed data from the old connection
in dropdown lists.

Looking at the Windows event logs I found the hard drive had been
failing but didn't report anything to the user. (WinXP had also done
some really strange things with the user's account folder. It recreated
them under domain/user (eg. instead of a user folder "bob" there was
also a copy called "computer name/bob"....).

Anyways, I'd check the event logs... just in case:)

Tried an Office repair install?

Alas, I found it easiest to reload the machine.
