Subform field - exists? If not... = 0

Experts,
I have a form with 2 subforms (a & b). I am trying to bring a
values from the subforms into the main form (say subtotal) and add the
two subtotals up in the main form and display a Grand total. My
problem is, sometime, subform b may be hidden because it has a value of
0 (I don't want to display this if no entry were made in there). What
ends up to me is the main from Grand total field becomes "error"
because subform b does not exist.
