Unrecognised database format

I recently needed to recover an MS Access database file from Norton Ghost 10 but I am unable to open the file in Access or any other application. Acess throughs up an "Unrecognised database format" error when I try to open it. I have tried MS Excel, JFTrans, importing the relevant table, compacting and repairing the file all with no luck.
Has anyone else had this problem with Norton Ghost and/or how do I go about opening an unrecognised file?
