Conversion problem 97->2000

In 97 I use the form.recordsetclone-object in the
form_beforeupdate-event to update an Oracle-DB.
Reason: More control of the kryptic ODBC-error-messages, cause they
are not to be gotten in the form_error-event (it's an old
application).

In 97 it works fine.
In 2000 I receive the following error. "This action canceled by an
assigned object."

Code pattern:
sub form_beforeupdate(cancel....
me.recordsetclone.addnew <----- crash !!!!
Help! Can I save these procedure and how?
If not, how can I get in the form_errorevent the ODBC-error-message?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have the correct DAO library reference selected?
