How can I use today's date as a variable?

Hello all - apologies for putting such a banal request for help on a
forum as distinguished as this, but I'm in trouble and didn't know
where else to turn...

It appears I've volunteered to re-write our University's project
management database... anyway... I'm an idiot...

I want to be able to click a button in a form and generate a report
detailing those projects who have a funding claim coming up, sorted by
date - closest to today being at the top.

How can I compare today's date with the date in the record?

Please help - someone...

Many thanks,

James B

Date()

Tell me when you're done kicking yourself :-)
