Possible to alter table with windows command line script?

We want to deploy a change to a database with minimal effort by the
users. I see how to open an Access database from the command line, but
can you then issue DDL statements through a command line? Can't find
much in the help. Using Access 2002. Want an "installshield" type of
approach, but I'm not too familiar with Access' capabilities. Any
suggestions for a simple way to achieve the result would be
appreciated.

It might help to know that /x switch will run a specified macro upon
startup, this could run some code to read in SQL statements from a file
and execute them, import objects from another db, etc.

But does that mean the macro has to already be in the database? Or can
it be an external file that is read-in by the command line?

No, it has to be in the database that you open, if you have a macro in
the new db you can already have one in the old db to import it and run
it. Not sure how this would work with code as it may reset it.
