FollowUp - XpSp2 and Office 97

P: n/a
I installed Sp2 on my computer, after asking here about any
problems that might occur

First I made an image of my entire hard drive
http://www.bootitng.com/

Then I used the free Sp2 CD from Microsoft
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...s/default.mspx

6,616,887,296 Sp1a - total hard drive before Sp2
7,319,445,504 Sp2
702,558,208

The initial install took about 700Meg of drive space

I then checked online and downloaded the kb834707 update

7,319,445,504
7,179,767,808
-139,677,696

I have no idea why (do not have a system inventory) but the
total drive space went DOWN this time

All parts of MS Office Pro 97 seem to be working properly

John,

Thanks for the comments. You probably eased the worries of many others. You
aren't the first person to ask this question and probably won't be the last.
Hopefully, the others will see you message. It's also refreshing to see
someone make a back-up before things go bad.

I've been doing this since before there was a "Personal Computer" so I
know that there are 2 kinds of computer users... those who HAVE lost
data due to a hard disk crash and those who WILL lose data

I have had drives crash but have never lost more than a few days worth
of "new" files... and my really important files I copy to a Zip disk
each time I update the file (and I rotate Zip disks as well)

Now that I have a DVD-R drive, and found a good imaging program, I
make a full drive image once a month ($1 for a name brand disc is
really cheap insurance) as well as Zip copies as needed

As far as XpSp2 goes... I have a couple dozen or so programs on my
computer and have tested about half of them with no problems

I am sure there are problems for some people (reading about some of
the problems in this and other forums is why I asked here about
Access 97 in the first place) but my experience has been good
