Hit a wall......

P: n/a
hi everyone.....

Done a form in access xp with 7 or so text boxes for user to enter data,
then 27 rows that are basically the same.
These rows consist of 4 text boxes just to be entered into, three combo
boxes, the selection in each of which dictate the choices in the next combo
box, and two list boxes which display the final selections from the combo
boxes. All my tables are linked n working, but ive hit a snag....

Ive kinda gone about it all wrong, cause it works fine but when i
controlsource the fields to a master table to record it all into and save it
as a record per form, it enters it into the table, but doesnt display or
remember records on the form. It displays everything in the form, i can
enter as many records as i like, but when i shut it down and re-open it, the
final table has all the data in it, but the form starts over at a blank
record 1.

Any ideas anyone? i know im probably being really dense here, but this is a
big old learning curve for me and ive been tackling each problem as i
go.....

Thanks in advance.....

Nige.

Brian,

thanks soooo much - u r a star! cant believe it was so easy (and
obvious!)
only one more tiny prob. the way ive set my comboboxes to limit the
choices
of the next combobox depending on what u select in the first, is by
using
afterupdate on the first combobox. when i recall the data, its in the
first
combobox, but the rest are blank. any ideas? or just a clue where to
look
and i'll hunt for it myself.....

Thanx

Yes, whatever code you have in the AfterUpdate event of the first combo,
have the same code in the Current event for the form (or, better, put the
code into a Sub procedure which you can call from both places)

That works in that it bring up the choices to select in the combobox, if
i want it to bring up the one selected originally, im trying

dim refresh1 as string
refresh1 = "SELECT [Final].[colour1]"
Me.cboColour.RowSource = refresh1

where cbocolour is the combobox with the refined list of options from
form oncurrent, and colour1 is the field in table final where the
original choice was made....

its almost there.... i'll have a play....

thanks again....

Nige, you shouldn't have to do anything to display the values from the
records. Are you sure that you have set the ControlSource property of the
combo boxes so that they are actually bound to the fields in the table?
Have you checked the underlying table to make sure the data has actually
been written to the table?

Brian,

Thanks for ur help. Ive sorted it. The selection in the 1st combobox
just displayed in the 2nd those fields in the relationshiped table with
the same primary key ID - it just narrowed the choices down. I played
with the afterupdate and found how to requery with the stored data in
the final table. All done! Thanks again :)
