Molasses-slow forms/reports, in design mode, against network/ODBC tables

DFS
Situation: Access 2003 front-end, containing links to Access 2003, SQL
Server 2000, and DB2 tables. None of these tables are local.

Hardware: IBM ThinkCentre, 10/100 Ethernet LAN

Problem: Open a form or a report in Design mode, and bring up the Properties
dialog. Now as I try to move from one Property to another, it's like Access
is checking the entire recordsource of the form or report before moving the
cursor focus. It literally is 10 seconds to make a mouse click. When I
click Save, it seems to run the recordsource again (I have the network icon
in the system tray, and both Send/Receive lights are activated solid).

Same system against local tables or while the LAN connection is disabled?
It's like buttah.

You haven't gotten many responses to the question/problem. Have you
gone to
http://groups.google.com/groups?safe...ess*&lr=&hl=en
and done a search on slow forms, etc.

I haven't yet. But cdma is THE place for Access solutions.

Thanks

I know. That's why I suggested groups google since you'd see the
archived list of threads on similar problems solved at cdma.

Long shot: Some resurce your MDB needs is on the network, and Access feels
like it has to doulbe-check that its available: an icon if you've used a
custom icon, or perhaps a DLL.

Long shot 2: Name AutoCorrect is on, and Access is 'just checking'

Long Shot 3: If a form is bound to a table on the LAN, maybe Access is
supposed to act this way? I don't know, never done that.

Long Shot 4: Could anit-virus or other network-checking software be slowing
things down?

No custom icons, only the Referenced libraries
Long shot 2: Name AutoCorrect is on, and Access is 'just checking'
I saw this suggestion mentioned somewhere, and haven't tried it yet.

Access97 never did, but maybe you're right, maybe Access2003 does this by
default. I know if I open and Compact/Repair an Access 2003 database that's
missing the tables upon which queries are based, all the queries can get
mangled, as in:

SELECT BUILDING_ID as [Bldg ID]

will be replaced with

SELECT BUILDING_ID as Expr1
Long Shot 4: Could anit-virus or other network-checking software be
slowing things down?
Not sure. I'll look into it.

Thanks
