Form based on left join query

Please excuse the newbie questions, but I'm fairly new to Access
though familiar with databases in general (experience with MySQL and
PostgreSQL).

The basic idea is that there is table of products in one table which
is a linked table. I've created a new table within access in which I
want to hold additional information on the products in the first
table.

ie.

Table1 Table2
product_id ----> product_id
description size
price
etc. etc

The query works fine and I can create a form based on the query, and
it "looks good" ie. all records show up with size blank where no row
in Table2.

The trick is that I want Table1 to be read-only from Access, and when
information is entered into the size field of the form, a new row to
be created in Table2 as necessary. In no cases is the information in
table1 to be modified or new rows added to it.

How can I achieve this?

On the form, set the Locked property of the fields you don't want to
be editable to True.
