Access 2000 - Error 3426 "This action was cancelled by an associated object" - info

P: n/a
Something to add to your trivia bank.

I've seen previous questions on this error but they've all been for
adding new records to the RecordsetClone. I got it trying to edit an
existing record.

I have a "Roles" subform on a Job form where employees are assigned to
jobs with the roles being "lead architect", "landscape architect",
etc. The table being updated has EmployeeID, RoleID, StartDate,
EndDate, etc.

I'm using the AfterUpdate proc for StartDate to close off other
records for the same person by going through the RecordsetClone in a
loop. It's always worked for me before, but this time I get error 3426
on the .Edit line.

What's different about this table? The primary key is a combination of
the EmployeeID and RoleID fields. Ah ha! I've been in the habit of
creating an artificial Autonumber primary key field for intersection
tables, but this time for some reason I can't recall I decided to use
a concatenated primary key.

I created a RoleID Autonumber field and made it the primary key. Error
no longer occurs. Bingo!
