MDM.EXE on startup menu

Hi:

I know MDM.EXE (Machine debug manager) is important in debugging scripts, and that it is
installed with MS office. However does it have to be on the startup menu? That is, does it
have to be started when the system is started, or does it also automatically start when
any of the Access development applications starts.

I would like to disable it on the startup (where it sits for some reason) but do not want
to loose the capability when developing scrips for Access or Excel. Can someone tell me
about this please?

Thanks

To answer your question, I would have to go into my startup and eliminate
MDM, then open Access or Excel, then CTL + ALT + DEL to open the Task List
and look for it. But, you can do the same thing. On the other hand, it is
possible that MDM might be initiated only when errors occur, not when Access
or Excel is opened. For that answer, you need to ask the question in a
newsgroup devoted to the Operating System you are using. There are a number
of those at the free news server "news.microsoft.com".

Hi John--Disregard Larry our resident nutcase. (He thinks he's an MVP and
knows something about computers.) Shutdown MDM in Computer Management
Console > Services > Properties by setting its Start Up Type to "Disable."
Then remove the MDM start up key in your Registry. Simply reset MDM in
Services to "Automatic" or "Manual" to use it again.

Thanks for your advice.

Unfortunately I have w98. and I don't appear to be able to find the computer management
console you refer to. I have removed MDM.exe from the startup menu, and disabled it in
Internet Explorer, but i don't know if there is something else I should to as well.

OK. If it is still loading on start up, then there is a line in your
Registry causing it to do so. Search your registry for it and remove the
line, or just change the file name so it cannot load. And hey get a
professional operating system if you want to do development work will ya?
