A little headache

Hi!
In an access 2000 invoice database, I want to have the user write a
credit memo (Norwegian: Kreditnota), or returning invoice. However I'm
not sure how I should arrange the table structure (if I at all need
this table [tblCreditMemo]). Or could I use a text-file starting with
the number, say:1000, and have the program call the text-file and read
the highest number and add 1?

Hope anyone has some thoughts on this one. Thanks!

If the KreditNota field contains the same colums as your standard
invoice, use the same table. Just add a Yes/No field to the table
to record whether it is the Invoice Or Credit. As to numbering, I'd
simply use a Dmax() function to find the most recently assigned
number and add one. You can even maintain separate sequences for
invoices and Credit notes, You can also easily prefix a code or the
year.

A credit memo should be the same as an invoice except that the result
should be negative. I don't believe you need a different table
structure as you want the results to be in the same table.

HTH!

Thanks for a very clever idea. Why didn't I think of that? I'll just add a
Yes/No field and a text field witch starts at 1000, then I'll let a DMax()
function update the report everytime a creditnota is being written, so
that the numbersequence will not be broken. The IRS doesn't like broken
numbersequences!
