Have you checked the date setting on your computer? Perhaps that got set to
the 1894 date. Have you checked to make certain sure that you do not have a
function of your own named Date?

I have an unbound text box on an unbound form.
I have its default value set to =Date(). The format
row under properties says mm/dd/yyyy. It is totally
unbound to anything. But rather than today's date
it says 06/24/1894.
There's nothing inherent to unbound text boxes on an unbound form with a
default of "=Date()" and a format of "mm/dd/yyyy". Just to make certain
sure... can't remember using an unbound field with that default and
format... and in Access 2002 on my machine, it returned, as expected,
"07/22/2004".
My Access 2002 is up-to-date with all Service Releases, as is my Jet 4.0.
