Relink table problem

Access 2000.
I have a strange problem. I have successfuly been relinking tables,
allowing the user to pick the backend from a combo box.

In one new instance though, one table in the backend is itself
linked to an excel spreadsheet which is updated by users.
I get run-time error 3078.
"...cannot find the input table or query 'tblProduct..."

Any ideas?

TIA
