Does anyone have a solution for tracking hardware, os and office
products for their organization? We are looking for a way to track
this information and then assign it to an employee and track its life
through our organization until its death or sale.
I would like to write something in Access to accomplish this, but
would like to know how people handle this process physically. Do you
use bar codes, do you just enter manufacturer/model/serial numbers,
etc, do you use tracking forms?
Thanks!
Search around the newsgroup. There are software packages available to
do this.. not terribly hard to create yourself if you want.

the "contains software" bit is a little more complicated, because only
hardware that is of type "computer" can contain software... Then you
just have
Computer--(1,M)--InstalledPackages---(M,1)---SoftwarePackage
You *can* use code 39 barcodes and barcode readers and all that if you
want. You could have a look at TrackIT, but it's kinda pricey.
