JD Edwards to MS ACCESS

Hi, I have a new project that consist of transfering a JD Edwards
Database to an MS Access database. I am just starting to learn how
those 2 databases works. What is the general idea behind this??
Outputing the data to a text file and read it? I just need the basic
concept please.

Thank you very much!

Marc,

You can do it two ways:
1. Link to the text file
2. Import the text file
Both are done through File-Get External Data

When you link, Access treats the text file as an Access table and any changes
you make to the data through the link get changed in the text file.

When you import, Access creates an Access table of the data in the text file;
there is np connection between the table and the text file. When you make
changes to the data in the table, it ends there; the data in the text file
remains unchanged.

Thank you for your answer,
So I have to export all the tables individually and import them one
after the other in Access. Then i have to observe the relationship,
primary key... used in the original database (JD Edwards) and create/use
the same one in Access? (the goal is to transfer the database from JD
Edwards to Access) Anything else I should know?

Thank You very much

Check if JD Edwards can batch export data so you don't have to do each table
individually. Also when you export, name the text files in some logical manner
such as Text1, Text2, Text3, etc. Before importing indivually, look at the
TransferText function in the Access Help file. With a structured naming system
of the text files, you could easily write a routine to automatically import the
text files to Access.
