Access 2002 Issues

We converted our databases from Access 97 to Access 2002 (only the MDB
files, not the MDW file). In addition we ported the Access application
from a Citrix NT server to a Citrix XP server.

We users accessing the application Globally via the Citrix Servers and
have been experiencing the following error on a daily basis:

Disk or Network Error

This is the error the users get whilst in the application.

To resolve we have to terminate all the Citrix User Sessions that are
running Access 2002.

This problem occurs approx twice a day.
Another issue of minor importance is that post conversion, the reports
are being printed in portrait mode instead of
landscape.

Can anyone help.

Best collection of information and links on the subject that I know about is
MVP Tony Toews' site, http://www.granite.ab.ca/accsmstr.htm.

Does each Citrix user have their own copy of the front-end database? If not,
that's the first step.

Problems When More Than One User Accesses the Same File Through Terminal
Services
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=818528

Reports normally print in default mode rather than Landscape.
You have to set either the report or the printer to Landscape if that is
what you want.

Reports RESET themselves to DEFAULT if they are bound to a specific printer,
and they can't find the printer. Printers are virtualised by Windows, so
effectively that means that reports bound to a specific printer reset
themselves to default if the application is installed on a different version
of Windows.

Less commonly, if no Default Printer is configured, reports bound to the
Default Printer reset themselves. You loose page orientation, paper size,
and margins.

After reports have reset themselves, they do NOT recover print setup if the
printer installation is repaired. The settings are lost.

This kind of Report Reset only happens if you open a report (in design or
view mode).

Printer handling is different in A2002 than it was in A2K2. This description
may no longer be valid.

"Citrix XP?"

What would that be?

I don't see any such product on the Citrix website.

And given that there is no such thing as a server version of XP
(instead there's Windows 2003 server), I doubt there would be an XP
version of Citrix.
We users accessing the application Globally via the Citrix Servers

Disk or Network Error

That means the instance of Access can no longer connect to the back
end data file. If the data file is on the same server as the session
is hosted, then that's a problem.

That's not because of the conversion. It's because of the change of
printer drivers. In your reference copy of the front end database
(if your app is not split into front end and back end, then you've
got major, major problems) in a terminal server session, open each
report in turn and set the margins and page orientation and save it.

This has been a problem with Access reports forever, that when they
are saved with some printer other than the DEFAUL printer, and the
printer name is not found on the target system, margins and page
orientation are lost.

Also, note that there are some major problems with A2K2 saving
printer settings when you haven't explicitly asked to save them:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;282363

It's also a good idea to turn off NAME AUTOCORRECT, which wreaked
havoc with printer settings in the early days of A2K. It still can
cause unexpected problems.

XP is in fact the current version of Citrix. The actual name is Metaframe
XP, and it's a part of the "Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite". See

Well, I went to:

http://citrix.com/site/ps/products.asp

and there's nothing there about Citrix XP.

It's a stupid name for a product that doesn't have anything to do
with Windows XP.
