Shell (sharing window focus on Access and non-Access application like telnet)

Is there any possiblity of writing an Access or Visual Basic
application that provides a method of sharing the window focus between
Access and the Shell application? i.e.
Shell("c:\windows\calculator.exe", vbNormalNoFocus) In other words
are there Win2000/XP api's that would allow you to control the
functionality of the calculator. I'm just using the calculator
application as an example I am actually trying to control a main frame
app with Access using the Host Explorer telnet client. The problem is
I can provide the functionality in Access but I can't mount the Access
database directly to the telnet window. Which means I have to switch
back and forth between the two windows. I would rather be able to
open up the telnet window within Access like a form. This way when I
minimize Access I also minimize the other telnet application too. I
am sure there is a way. The question is has it been done before and
is it worth the time to implement and write pages of code. Any help
is appreciated.

At least one control vendor has a Telnet control. Which you could install on an
Access form. See http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/email/thirdparty.htm for a list of
such vendors.

You could try using the SetParent API to set the Telnet Window as a
Child of the Access Form or App window. I have no idea whether it will
work or any possible negative interactions but it would not hurt to
try!<grin>

I've done it with VB forms, but most Telnet apps run in a console window so
I don't know ow this would work. I'm fairly certain the Setparent API would
work but it's how the windows messages are processd after that I'm not too
sure about.

Probably be ok.
