variable sub form sum value

P: n/a
I have an order form (frmOrder on tblOrder) with a series of sub forms
in tabs that list items (from tblOrderItems) associated (by OrderID)
with the order. I have 4 classes of items, so when the new order is
created I establish what class of item form to display and hide the
tabs for the other order item sub forms. That all works fine. Now my
problem is that I have a summary tab with unbound fields where I sum
up the "amount" column for each item joined to the order and do some
tax calculations, etc. I merrily went along and did the standard
=Sum([Amount]) in the subreport footer transposed to the unbound
subtotal field in the main form until I realized my error - I'm not
able to tell what item subform to get the =Sum([Amount]) value from.
What I originally wanted to do a run a query like:

SELECT SUM(Amount)As SubTotalAmount from tblOrderItem where OrderID =
frmOrder.OrderID

to get the value so it is independent of whatever item class sub form
is used to input the items. But I don't know how to make this work in
access? Sure would appreciate any suggestions.
