Turning database into MDE

Hello,

I am working on a project for my work and I would like to lock it up a
little so that the code is inaccessible. I was going to turn it into an MDE
file but for some reason that option is greyed out. Have I done something
wrong? Basically this database is pulling information from another raw data
database for historical and reporting purposes.

Hi Brandon

Open any module in that MDB and click Compile and Save All Modules. When it
compiles without errors, make sure you're using the same version of Access
that created the MDB to then create the MDE.

This option will be greyed out if you are working in A2002 (and I assume A2003) on an mdb which is is A2000 file format.
Although A2002 can create and work with A2000 files, it cannot create an mde in A2000 format.

You need to either open the file in a copy of A2000 and create the mde, or convert the file to A2002/3 format. You will
then be able to create the mde.

If I convert it to 2002 format will people with access 2000 or access 97
still be able to work with the database? If not is there a way to make it
run no matter which of the above versions they have?

Nope. For that matter, Access 97 users will be unable to use it in Access
2000 format.
