ASP access database

Avi
Hello,

I created an access database that is on an ASP page. Utilizing frames
(split top and bottom) I would like the top portion to have links of
names. When this is clicked, it gets the information from the
database (relevent to the name clicked) and posts it to the bottom
page. The bottom page would use the access form that I created.

I do not know how to make the links at the top retrieve the
information from the database and throw it to the bottom screen (which
is another .asp page).

Thanks

Avi

pass the data in the query string is one way

the link in page1.asp (top frame) would be <a
href=page2.asp?data1=data&data2=moredata etc etc>link 1</a>

page2.asp would just use the data passed to it

So I can better understand. Lets say my MS access Key field is
"CompanyID". When the person clicks on the top page link, it looks for
the "CompanyID". Once it finds the "CompanyID", it takes all of the
data in that entry and places it in page2.asp (the bottom page).

If the "CompanyID" has the following fields "CompanyName",
"CompanyStart", "CompanyEnd" in the record....how would your link look
like? I am assuming that the page 1 links just open up a new page (in
the bottom frame) which is page2.asp

TIA,

Avi

ok, (assuming using VBscript, and much simplified syntax)

page1.asp has the link "page2.asp?companyID=companyA"

page2.asp could contain

searchstr = request.querystring("companyID") --- This reads in the search
criteria from the query string

sqlQuery = "SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE companyID = " & "'" & searchstr &
"'" --- retrieve data from database for companyID = searchstr (in this case
companyA)

strcompanyname = rs("comapnyName")
strcompanyStart = rs("companyStart")
etc etc

so, what we've done here is query the database table (called tablename) for
all the details relating to a company that has the companyID of companyA.
Then placed this data into strings which we can response.write wherever we
want them to appear in page2.asp

hope that makes sense to you, let me know if you need more help
