'operation was canceled' error. Please help.

Hello all,
I am so frustrated. I am doing something so simple and yet I confront
such a problem.
I am writing a program in VB, opening a db connection to an access db
using ADODC control. I disply a record's fields and I can navigate
through the recordset. BUT when trying to change a field content or
when adding a new record I receive the error: 'operation was canceled'
and from then I can no longer navigate the control.
I installed VB's sp5 and the table stands alone in the db (does not
relay on any other table in the db). I am helpless.
PLEASE HELP.
Tami.

In Access, we have events that are called where you can cancel an
action. On of them is the beforeupdate event. Ex:
Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)
If x <> y then Cancel = True
end sub

Do you have any code that does something like that?

Tables and database can be opened as read-only, is yours opened
read/write? We can also set forms so allowadditions/allowedits is
false. Anything like that? Check you connection string.

Do your tables have a primary key? I read somewhere that ODBC tables
are read-only if no primary key exists.

I have not used ADODC, but my experience is that when ADO raises the error you
are describing, it is preceeded by several other more informative error
messages if you check the Errors collection of the ADO Connection object you
are using.

Hello Steve,
Thanks very much for the reply. eventually, I opened a new vb project,
useing the same forms, opened a new db useing the same tables and all is
fine. I used the software developeres solution for all problems
(restart).
Tami.
