Is there some way to peruse an MDB file without having MS

You can get to the data contained in the tables through any ODBC-compliant
client. You can use either DAO or ADO to get at the data. Other than that,
no, there's no way to get at the contents of an MDB.

1) You can use VB, Delphi or other systems which can access (no pun intended) Access
MDBs. But these will likely use Jet DLLs and such same as Access.

2) MDB Tools is a set of libraries and utilities to facilitate exporting data from MS
Access databases (mdb files) without using the Microsoft DLLs. In other words they
are reverse engineering the layout of the MDB file. mdbtools.sourceforge.net/
