can you do this in access? strings mentioned

1. Can you replace a string in access that has a start and end you know of
and anythign in the middle like this (for removing quotes or html)
replace("this is <the html part> goodbye","<*>","the new html part")
so that second string is like a wildcard that indicates the command to
replace the brackets and anything in between.

2. something similar above where you can extract this as well?
like
obtain "<the html part>" from "this is <the html part> goodbye"
if you know the two chars to exract the inbetween stuff from.
