Please Help: Production list DB

P: n/a
Hi there,

I wonder if anyone out there can help me.

I'm setting up a database at the moment for a manufacturing company.
In my database I have a table listing all the company products; I have
a related table listing the subcomponents of each product. (The
company makes both the sub components and finished products.) I have a
third table called production list.

In my database I want to be able to select a ‘product' form the
products table and add it to the production list table. I want all
related subcomponents of the selected product to be automatically
added to the production list. As ‘products are added to the production
list table, I select the employee to make the product. Finally I
intend using a query to create editable personal work schedules for
each employee.

I can achieve some of this using multiple queries and a union query to
create the work schedule- but this causes problems because the records
in the work schedules cannot be edited.

I'm not a very experienced Access programmer and I would be very
grateful if someone could advise me on how best to achieve what I'm
trying to do.

Thanks in advance,

Colm

You might want to start by reading this article:
http://www.mvps.org/access/modules/mdl0027.htm

If all you're doing is finding all the children (parts) of a parent
(an assembly), then you could just search the "components" table for
the FK from parts and then insert all those values into your table.
simple append query...
