splitting a memo field into 2

We are attemting to split a memo field into two fields due to an
overflow error when attempting a query on the memo field.

We can run a right([fieldname],1000) code to split the data, but we
are unable to remove this information from the original cell, we can
only manage to copy to a new cell.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

After you have copied the information to a new column,
try an update query with Mid([fieldname],1000).
