Unique index works but...

Hi I have a unique index on a combination of fields to ensure that
duplicate contacts are not entered. I checked it by entering the same
contact info twice and it works but... there is no message that pops up
saying that the record was not added because of the index. Is there a
way to do this?

thx

Colin
