Parameter Like Statement Criteria Problem

I am having difficulty with a MS Access XP (2000 based) paramter query
linked to a mainframe. The query has
Like "*" & fgMyVariable()&"*"
in the criteria but does not return any records althoght the table is
populated. The query DOES however return records on Access 2000 with
the SAME query. No records return if the user enters data in the
parameter or leaves it blank on Access XP.

Any suggestions?

These are make tables from an old mainframe, using Jet to cycle data
on local workstataion from File Server.

Thanks
