Bound form, SQL server, opening in wrong mode

P: n/a
This is a twisted little problem.

A client has an Access 2000 front-end using linked tables to a DNS to SQL
Server 2000 back-end.

With an Access 2000 back-end there is no problem. The problem only exists
with the SQL Server back-end.

A bound form is being opened in code in 'add' data mode (using the Data Mode
arg) but it isn't working. In the Load event there is code so a particular
field is initialised when adding a new record. The code fails as it is
attempting to initialise that field. By putting a break point in and
checking the field the form seems to be opening in 'edit' mode as the field
contains data.

However, as this field is populated (with the first record in the table as I
checked the values) it is attempting to overwrite the id and generates an
error that the value can't be set. Why it simply doesn't overwrite the
record I don't know. It seems to be locked.

But why is the form not opening in 'add' mode?

A little lost here and need some direction.
