Need autonumbering help (novice level)

Have set up a inventory of IT equipment in a small school, and I need to
give each item a unique serial number, ie: DHRS 01,
DHRS 02, etc the text is needed as we intend to security mark, once database
finish

More info is needed. What do you need to do next? Is the table constructed?
Do you just need to get the serial numbers in? How do you determine what
item gets what serial number?
