Writing from unbound comboboxes to tables

P: n/a
bj
I run into this problem regularly and can't seem to figure out how to
do it. Suppose I have an unbound combobox (the list could be
pre-typed or populated in some other way). I want to place that
control on a form and use it to populate a table (the form may or may
not be bound to the table). How do I write the list choice to the
table?

In the properties in your form you will make set for the combo box:
'Row source type' as 'Value List'
'Row source as your list each separated by semicolons
ex: 0800;0900;1000;1100;1200
would list 5 items 0800 thru 1200 and populate the selected one in the table

This works in the properties of the table as well if you are using a field
that allows lookup's such as text or yes/no.

Make sure that if you have validation rules in your table the choices you
put in are valid.

I think one point was missed: the form may or may not be bound to a
table. If you want to write the list choice to the table, you can do
an append query or open a recordset (ie: set
rs=db.openrecordset(SomeSQL Statement), add a new record (ie:
rs.addnew) and write to the appropriate table field (ie:
rs!YourFieldName=forms!formname!comboboxname).

Running an append query is probably simpler, but I hate creating
objects that only get occasional use.
