Plargiarism Database

Hi all!

Not sure if this is the right NG but I want to build a plagiarism database
to catch college kids cheating on their papers. Basically I want to scan in
their papers and then somehow check them against other papers in the
database or maybe papers on the Web. If a good match is found I want the
application to look up the student's campus address--actually his or her
dormitory and room number--and then send an electric shock to his or her
genitals while he or she is sleeping. My questions: (1) Is Access the
right product for this? (2) How high should the voltage be?

Thanks to all!

Crosschecking will undoubtedly be a manual process at best.
Forget obtaining quality OCR'd scans - it'll never happen in
our lifetime. No more likely than "Computer! Set course for
the Hyperion System, Kirk out" will become a reality.

I think Access is not suitable for this type of application.
Think of the fuzzy logic needed to detect slightly modified
plagiarized paragraphs. That's pretty complex.

There are websites that provide this kind of service, check out
www.mydropbox.com and http://www.turnitin.com/

Have you investigated Turnitin (http://www.turnitin.com)?
