Addresses

Dear friends

In the litterature, experts in data modeling recpmmend to have a
separate table for addresses.

Possible fields : street number, street name, street type, box number,
city name (or code), zip code.

I fetched the archives, but could not find any advice on how to enter
the data and prevent duplicates.

Can someone put me in the right direction ?

I don't think that there has been any consensus on how to prevent
duplicate address entries. It is relatively straightforward to
find existing records with identical entries, but very hard to
prevent alternate spellings of the same address.

Examples:
Hyman Drive,
Hyman Street,
Rue Hyman,
Huyman Ave.
Hyman Avenue
Ave.Hymen
Promenade Hyman
Prom. Hyman

have all been found on mail sent to my house.
You might search Google for previous discussions on this list,
Some suggestions include soundex functions, combo boxes to select
from a table populated from a map,

Hello Bob,

Tks for your comments. I searched Google without success.

What I call an address is the whole fields (line 1, line 2, street name,
street type...). Actually, to prevent alternate spellings of the street
name, I begin to capture name of the city from a combobox. This open a
list of existing streets in this city.

But this is not yet a complete address. You have to get other lines. and
only there verify the whole record.

I bought a book about Data model. Unfortunately, it has no real example.
